Summer Solstice is a powerful celestial event – a classic time for works of magic. This is the longest day of the year with the sun at its peak in the Northern Hemisphere before beginning its slide into darkness. Summer Solstice is also a season of change and new beginnings sparked by the summer’s heat, light, and abundance. This is a magical opportunity to harness the pinnacle of the Sun’s power, whether for personal gain, healing, activism, or connecting to your higher purpose.

To celebrate midsummer, we call upon the Celtic triple-goddess Cerridwen, in her Mother Goddess aspect to honor change, fertility, and fulfillment. Cerridwen’s sacred cauldron symbolizes the transformative power of magic, wisdom, rebirth, and creative inspiration that we need in these challenging times. Forged by Cerridwen, we embark on a journey of growth and also call to the Celtic harvest god Lugh whose crops are flourishing in the summer’s warmth.

In ritual space we will taste the sweetness of summer, purify ourselves with light, and leap over Cerridwen’s midsummer cauldron – offering our fears so something new can be born (cauldron leaping is optional).

We call thee in, Cerridwen
We call thee in, Cerridwen
We call thee in, Cerirdwen

  • Please bring food and drink to share for the post-ritual potluck.
  • Bring summer flowers for the altar if you feel so inclined.
  • All genders, ages, and sexual orientations welcome.
  • No prior magical experience is required.

This ritual follows practices of the Reclaiming Tradition, a community of people working to unify spirit and politics, whose vision is rooted in the religion and magic of the Goddess, the Immanent Life Force. Reclaiming sees our work as teaching and making magic: the art of empowering ourselves and each other. In our classes, workshops, and public rituals, we train our voices, bodies, energy, intuition, and minds. We use the skills we learn to deepen our strength, both as individuals and as community, to voice our concerns about the world in which we live, and bring to birth a vision of a new culture.
